Hey curvy girls all over the world,
So, we are just going to call last week the week of Gabourey Sidibe. The Empire star has been serving up a swanky new look. She just debut a spread in People magazine where she spoke on her weightloss surgery. By the end of the week, Gabby went viral after folks saw her gorgeous Nylon magazine April 2017 cover and fashion spread.
In Nylon Gabby goes more in depth about her memoir, This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare, which comes out on May 1st. The dark skinned beauty shares stories about her role as Precious and how she thought being the lead would make people see her as more than just a fat girl.
Sidibe said, “I guess I thought that going from literally nothing to the lead in the movie would show people that I wouldn’t be just fat anymore, or at least that’s not the first thing people would think of me, that I’m not too fat or too black or ghetto or nappy—that wouldn’t be part of my narrative anymore, but it was.”
We’ve seen Gabourey execute her characters with such poise and humility. Her role as Becky on Empire allowed the world to see her in a different light. We see Beck as smart and funny on Empire. In addition, we also got to see her get a man last year on Empire and film a scene where we saw her do a romantic scene. People get in a frenzy anytime they see a big girl look sexy or have sex and kiss on television. In regards to that epic moment, Sidibe says,
“It was only a big deal, though, because I happen to be in this body, this body that I have had my entire life and career. You all knew I was fat then; don’t turn on the TV and still be surprised I am fat. It implies that people with bigger bodies don’t find love and aren’t worth loving. Why don’t I deserve it? Because I’m not skinny? I love my body and I deserve love. We all do at any size.”

As for her epic spread in Nylon, Gabourey wore plus size designers ranging from Universal Standaed to indie designer Ofurre.
