Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Ashley Graham is still out here knocking down walls for plus size women. In case you forgot, let me run it down for you. Ashley became the first plus model to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated, The first plus model to grace the cover of Maxim, Cosmopolitan, and even Forbes. Just a few weeks ago, she was named Glamours woman of the year. Not only is she doing her thing as a model, Ashley is over here kicking butt in business as well. She has two clothing collaborations under her belt, a successful lingerie line, and did a nail polish collab with Sephora. Today, Mrs. Graham announced probably her biggest achievement yet. The model now has an Ashley Graham Barbie Doll. I mean, wow, what a year.
At Glamour’s Women of The Year award, Ashley was presented with the award for her body positive activism. In addition, she was also presented with her very own Ashley Graham Barbie Doll. Although Graham helped design her Barbie, she had this to say, “Does any little girl imagine they’re going to have a Barbie made in their likeness?” We can answer that for you Ashley, and say no. This is huge. No pun intended.
Earlier this year Mattel released a slew of new Barbie Dolls that were made in the image of real little girls. Mattel added Barbies with different skin tones including darker skin. They also recreated Barbies that were tall, petite, and plus.
The Ashley Graham Barbie doll was made with her voluptuous hips, small waist, and full bosom. They dressed her barbie in one of Ashley’s signature looks, a denim jacket, and body con dress. The doll also has Ashley’s rich dark lustrous hair.
In an interview with HuffPost, Ashley said when working with Mattel on designing her Barbie, she had one major request. She said, I was like, ‘Guys, we can make this Barbie, but if her thighs don’t touch, she’s not authentic.’”
