Secure The Bag Sis: These Black Plus Size Fashion Bloggers Landed Major Brand Collaborations For Spring 2020

When it comes to brand collaborations plus size bloggers are the last to get the opportunity to partner with a fashion brand. What’s even more disappointing, black plus size fashion bloggers are even lower on the totem pole. However, in the past there have been a few plus size fashion influencers that helped to open the door for blogger collaborations.

We must acknowledge fashion influencers like Essie Golden, Chante Burkette, Chastity Garner, Gabifresh, Nadia Aboulhosn, and Nicolette Mason for helping brands to see the value in plus size influencers and their audience. For spring 2020, these 4 black plus size fashion bloggers have launched their brand collaborations and we are here for every single one of them. Especially since the clothes are cute.

If there were ever a time to support plus size influencers this is it. To have more opportunities in the future, numbers matter. So it’s important for blogger collaborations to do well. Which is why we love to do our part in spreading the word.

This month there must be something in the water because we have 4 black female plus size bloggers with major brand collaborations. This is not something that you see often. So we are here to celebrate.

At The Office With Kelly Augustine, Influencer Coordinator For Gwynnie Bee

kelly augustine 2

Hey curvy girls all over the world,

Today, we are bringing back one of our popular features “At The Office,” where we feature working women who are killing it in their industry. From PR executives and fashion stylists, to finance executives, we’ve featured a diverse group of women. We discuss career advice and style tips to make it in their industry.

For today’s feature, we chat with Kelly Augustine, the Influencer coordinator for the plus size fashion subscription brand, Gwynnie Bee and founder of Kelly Augustine.com. We met with Kelly in Long Island City outside of the Gwynnie Bee offices. We chatted with her about her career and office style. Here’s what Kelly had to say:

How did you get into your field? I take my blog very seriously, and it is a representation of my work and tone. After working with the company as an affiliate, I was brought on as a Visual Merchandiser. Blogs can lead to the right things if you let them!

What do you love the most about your career? I love that I’ve found a space to apply all of my skills. I have a degree in Advertising/PR, a certificate in Brand Management from FIT, and knowledge from having a blog for years. To be able to bring all of those things together has been tremendous.

The best career advice you would give someone breaking into your industry? Be passionate about the multifaceted consumer, her needs and wants will shape your behaviors. Dig deep and let the lifestyle consume you. It will make you much better at your job!

How would you describe your office style? Luckily, I’m in an environment where I’m free to wear what I want. On any given day you can catch me in a pencil skirt with a sweatshirt/pair of jeans, or an easy dress. Since I’m always running from our sample closet to a photoshoot to meetings, I like to be as comfortable as possible.

What are you wearing today: I’m wearing a vintage blazer, Zara cold shoulder ruffle top, an H&M scarf as a headwrap, Jeffrey Campbell boots, and these immaculate Lane Bryant high waisted flare jeans that I’ve lived in since I got them

What are your professional do’s and don’ts for workwear? DO always wear something that you can move around in. Regardless of where you work, it’s a big DON’T to be tugging at your clothing all day. Don’t go for too tight skirts or blazers that are too snug. I’m most confident when I’m in great clothes, I am free to concentrate on my job and not my back being out or my skirt being too short.

What is your go to piece for transitioning from desk to dinner? A jacket is always a great way to transition from desk to dinner. A dress with a blazer for day becomes a little black dress for dinner at night. It’s a no-brainer!

What are your top 5 places to shop at? I’m a serious Lane Bryant shopper, their fit is usually spot on for me. I also love Eloquii and H&M for trend pieces, Nastygal for shoes, and Carmakoma for a twist on the basics.

Thanks Kelly!
