Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Anyone who knows me knows that I am a sucker for mixing and matching bright colors. Back in 2010 when color blocking reigned supreme, I was combining 3 to 4 different colors in an outfit. I know it sounds a bit much but when done right, mixing and matching colors can make a stunning look. I think we all should have some sort of basic knowledge when it comes to combining colors. When you understand what colors look best together, you will be able to look in your closet and come up with a slew of new outfit ideas.
To help you mix and match colors like a pro, I introduce to you the color wheel. The color wheel shows you what colors simply compliment each other.
By using the color wheel you can figure out which colors to combine. The color wheel shows you what the primary colors are and what their complimentary color is. For example:
–Yellow is a primary color and is a complimentary color when paired with purple
–Blue is a primary color and its complimentary color when paired with orange
–Red is a primary color and green is it’s complimentary color
Another trick to understanding how to mix colors using the color wheel is to combine colors next to each other.
–Yellow works well with green and orange.
–Orange and red go together.
-You can mix red with purple or purple with blue, and blue with green.
Orange is a complimentary color and it plays nice with purple and pink. Just checkout Beyonce
and celebrity stylist June Ambrose.
Mixing light and dark versions of the same color family can create an amazing look. You see how Jill Scott mixed her dark navy fur coat with a lighter blue.
Another color wheel tip is to mix colors that form a T, X, or form a 90 degree angle with each other.
There’s also power on combining neutrals with color. All neutral colors can be worn interchangeably.
Neutral colors can be worn with both dark and light colors. Checkout Khloe Kardashian. She paired a camel colored coat with a forest green colored dress.
So, the next time you feel like you’re in a style rut, breakout the color wheel and recreate a new colorful look.
Hope this was helpful, let me know what you think
