JOIN THE MOVEMENT: BREAKING ALL THE RULES, PLUS SIZE WOMEN CAN WEAR CROP TOPS

Hey curvy girls all over the world,

For those of you that have been following me since 2009, you all know that my message has been about plus size women breaking all the rules when it comes to fashion. We are often told what not to wear and our fashion options have always been limited. This year, Stylish Curves is starting a small movement and we would like for you to join us. Our movement is called “Breaking All The Rules” which represents plus size women wearing all the things that out dated fashion rules say we shouldn’t. Despite what many think, plus size women can wear horizontal stripes, crop tops, skinny jeans, tutu’s, mini skirts, and all white.

To jump start this movement we are asking that every time you post a picture of yourself wearing something that plus size women are told not to, (ex, horizontal stripes, crop tops, tutu’s, bikin’s, mini skirts, skinny jeans) please use our hashtag #SCBREAKINGALLTHERULES. In return for joining our movement, we will feature your looks every Friday for the month of April.

You can follow SC on Twitter, Facebook, Intagram, under our name @stylishcurves when you use the hashtag

We decided to kick off the movement by showing that plus size women can wear crop tops and look phenomenal in them. Crop tops are a spring/summer 2013 trend and yes ladies, we can rock them too. As I always say, it’s about finding what works for your shape.

Below are a photos of some of my personal favorite bloggers who have pulled the crop top look off tastefully and with style. I chose these women because they’re of all different shapes and sizes.

Blogger Jay Miranda of Jay Miranda.com wore a leather cropped jacket and black trousers. Pairing trends with classic styles are an easy way to look polished.

Have we convinced you yet? Say it with us, plus size women can wear  crop tops too. Remember, if you want to join the movement just use the hashtag #scbreakingalltherules when you tweet, Facebook, or Instagram a photo of you wearing horizontal stripes, crop tops, skinny jeans, mini skirts, tutu’s, fatkini’s or anything that society deems not suitable for plus size women.

I love this post and definitely am loving the movement. Crop tops are all about how you wear them and I wear them often lol. I wore one when I was awarded Influential Curvy Woman of Style in DC and felt aamzing even though I dont have washboard abs or even a flat tummy! I fully support this!

I see women wearing crop tops but I don’t see retailers selling them (not even my popular go-to online stores)….. where can I find them?

hi Ebony- American Apparel has them and for less of a price so does Papaya. I usually make my own as well… I just fold a tank top over to the length I want. It usually stays put just fine but sometimes you can use a little hollywood magic double sided tape to secure it 🙂

No Ma’am… Although you ladies look nice, Crop tops are not for every body type! Just because they make it in our size dont mean we all should or could wear it!

So, if you’re saying they look nice, what’s the problem? Also, who makes the rules on what is and what is not for which type of body?

@cheapchicinchicago:disqus There is no problem. There are quite a few stylists and designers, and fashion editors who don’t think plus size women should where certain items. A number of plus size women themselves don’t believe they can wear crop tops, mini skirts, shorts, or horizontal stripes. This movement is showing that plus size women can wear them and look good in them

That’s what I was trying to get MzPhillyFluff to understand. The statement that the “ladies look nice” and “crop tops are not for every body type” is confusing and contradictory.

This is awesome, I just saw this through pinterest and clicked to see where it was from. I think this is great and I totally agree there shouldn’t be rules just because we are plus-sized. I think as long as you have confidence in what your wearing, then rock it.

This is fantastic! I always love to see when women decide to fight and make womens fashion their own. The “rules” are there to be broken, and it’s great to see beautiful women get excited to try out fashion!
