I adopted this mentality in high school when my friends and I would scour Bloomingdales and Macy’s to find designer clothes on a discount. Majority of my friends ranged from sizes 4-8 and could just pick up anything off the rack and had an abundance of stylish choices. I on the other hand, was busting at the seams of a size 14 and couldn’t find stylish clothes to fit me that easily. The plus size brands that were out at the time didn’t appeal to my fashion sense. I wanted the cute contemporary designs that were on the 2nd and 3rd floors of department stores or that were housed in the brick and stone stores that were located in the Soho area of NYC.
Although the plus size fashion industry is growing and making more fashionable pieces the industry still lacks the contemporary looks that appeal to the more fashion forward consumer.
