If you’re looking for african printed pieces for your curves, checkout D’IYANU. This black owned brand designs ready to wear african inspired clothing. And they offer plus sizes.
D’IYANU AFRICAN INSPIRED CLOTHING
Over the past few years we’ve seen an uptick in african inspired clothing brands. D’IYANU (means wonderful) is one of the brands that chose to include plus sizes. They go up to a size 3X in just about every piece from their women’s collection. And they start at an XS.
In addition to offering larger sizes, they include plus size models in their advertising. Which is refreshing. Many size inclusive brands often leave out plus size models. Representation matters and D’IYANU understands that.
The designs are bold, bright, and fashion forward. In addition to D’IYANU hitting all the right fashion notes, their pricing is affordable. With pieces starting at $25 for a headwrap up to $169 for a blazer/jacket.
When it comes to the birth of the brand, Founder and CEO Addie Ajayi says, “Although I didn’t have a design background, I felt a deep desire to make a meaningful impact in the world, and help others express themselves through bold African-inspired clothing.”
“I launched D’IYANU in 2014 from my studio apartment in King of Prussia, PA with only six styles for women—one blouse, two dresses, and three skirts. Five months later, I’d quit my job and committed to D’IYANU full time. In 2016, my brother Dara joined as President, and his support and contributions have been invaluable in making us what we are today.”
Recently, they dropped their fall and winter women’s collection. As always the collection consists of a full range of tops, dresses, skirts, and outerwear. All with african inspired prints.
In these collections you’ll find versatile pieces like button front midi cardigans and belted trench coats. Which can be worn as dresses. There’s even some chic holiday pieces like a velvet wrap skirt and matching corset. Also, there’s a printed tulle dress that gives retro glam vibes.
