Despite weight controversy Crystal Renn is still the reigning plus size model who is breaking barriers and has shattered that glass ceiling for plus size models. If you are not a fan, you have to give credit where credit is due. One of the most coveted design houses to get an ad campaign with is Chanel and Crystal can now cross that goal off her list. Crystal is the face of one of Chanel’s Fall 2010 ad campaigns and as usual she looks beautiful.
However, one does have to ask the question, is old Lagerfeld changing his mind about the curvy girl? Or is he only trying to incorporate us because of all the buzz curvy girls are receiving in fashion right now? I for one will not get my hopes up until I see sizes 16+ under the Chanel tag in his designs.
What are your thoughts on Crystal’s Chanel ad?

I am satisfied with the ad because they are open minded to put a model that isn’t a size 2. however I do agree with you because it was be amazing if they had a model size 16 and up. Love your blog, I read all your post 🙂

Well, clearly he’s not showing much of her body and I highly doubt he’s changed his mind because of one especially gorgeous, curvy model. It’s just a way to expand reach and good marketing.

I personally am just okay with this ad. I’m not impressed. If they really wanted to make a statement they would have shown her body. Having a headshot of a “plus sized” model with a hot guy behind her doesnt really sell me on someone’s desire to incorporate plus size women into the fold. I think Karl might be trying to put a toe in the water and test it out but this isn’t the way. Maybe I missed the full body scans and I’ll try to find some but if not then I say he’s on the plus wagon and maybe even trying to use some of CR’s hype for interest. I say until we see the full body shot of CR or another curvy model we should give him the side eye and say Karl go hard or go home! Thanks for such a great question, Latrice B.
