Hey curvy girls all over the world,
We are kicking things off this Friday with more body positive inspirational articles, as we promised.
As plus size women we all have different journey’s on how we came to love our body. Loving your body is a process that takes time. Our experience s and what we learn from them are what makes us stronger and more confident.
A few weeks ago, I reached out to Kendra Williams. She was someone that I followed on Instagram. Kendra has quite a journey and quite a story about how she came to love the skin she was in. If you follow Kendra on Instagram, you will receive daily doses of body positive quotes as well as see some of Kendra’s sassy style.
I asked Kendra to share a little bit of her journey to body acceptance with you. I hope her story is uplifting to you and helps you end 2013 and start 2014 with a better and healthier outlook on loving your body.
I introduce to you Kendra Williams:
Life or death, a question I was faced with just a few years ago. Many say, “Kendra, you are so confident! How could that ever be?”…
I was taunted as a child about my weight for years, up until high school. I was belittled by shallow family members and schoolmates, who didn’t truly understand why that I was extremely depressed, angry and suffering from a compulsive eating disorder. Bingeing was a hobby and I hid behind a smile that only wanted help to fix what was causing this destruction to my body.
Fast forward to college, I saw the light. Or I thought I did. I had the friends, the boyfriend, the fabulous clothes and job, but still would be sick in fetal position every night due to indulging 5,000+ calories a night. Bingeing was still a friend that I dearly wanted to end a relationship with, but there was something still haunting me that would not let me let go of this embarrassing disorder. Life or death? To live or not to live, that was the question I asked myself one night, I could not do this anymore. No one understood me, no one wanted to help me, and no one saw me other than what I portrayed to be; a confident over-weight woman who had it all, but truly had nothing but an empty heart and was seconds away from death. I learned that I had to help myself first, before anyone could…
September 2009, I chose life! I gave my life to Christ and from that day, I have not had the urge or desire to binge. I’ve transformed myself tremendously. I’ve lost over 80lbs, and I’m still working on my personal growth. I eat 5-6 meals a day, I run 3 miles a day, and I’m consistently conscious of everything that I eat. I still “live” and have my treats, but more importantly, I make sure that I don’t go back to my old habits. I’ve taken advantage of every single networking site possible to promote health and beauty. It’s my purpose in life to help women recognize their true beauty, from the inside out. You never know what the next person is going through, so if I can help just one person, then my job is done.
My motto, “When you love yourself, absolutely nothing else matters!” We as women must know our worth and know that we deserve the best, regardless if it’s our health/weight, relationship, job, etc. For many years we stay in our cocoons, but eventually we grow into the beautiful butterflies that we were born to be. We are our worst critics, but when you do a bit of soul searching you will find that you are merely steps away from living the happiest, most fulfilled life possible.
Thank you so much Kendra for your inspirational words.
