Hey curvy girls all over the world,
In my quest to have just one Miranda Priestly(Devil Wears Prada) moment by wearing a different coat everyday of the week (I know, so shallow) I’ve come to find that I love a good classic coat. Hence, why all my latest personal style looks have included a camel colored belted peacoat. At heart, I am a lover of classic fashion. I may cheat on it sometimes but there is no denying, I am a Breakfast at Tiffany’s kind of girl. That’s why I’m not surprised that out of all the fall and winter trends, my favorite trend has been tweed. It all started with a yellow cropped zippered jacket (seen here), then a multi colored biker style jacket (seen here), a tweed metallic dress (seen here), and now, a black and white knee length tweed coat from Jessica London.
Finding spectacular winter coats can be a challenge for plus size women, but thank God for those designers and brands who are producing stylish options. Each season, Jessica London nails it when it comes to classic coats. I am a big fan of their leather jackets as well as the bevy of colorful peacoats they offer. A few weeks ago, I spied this tweed coat and thought it would be a nice option for work and a great alternative to my camel peacoat that I wear to death.
The sophisticated look of the tweed overcoat can fool you into thinking you can only wear to work or if you’re dressed up. You guys know me. I need my clothes to take me from work to weekend. While it was easy to make the coat a work option, I just had to see how well it would play in a casual dressed down situation. Tweed and leather are one of my favorite fabric combinations. The two textures together are foolproof.
Anytime I want to dress something down or knock the sophistication out of it, I always reach for a pair of jeans. Not this time. Instead, I opted for my favorite faux leather pants in the whole wide world and teamed it up with another trend, the sweatshirt. Since I can never just do all black, I chose a cobalt blue sweater and my blue suede shoes (insert Elvis shuffle). I polished my look off with a floral jewel encrusted necklace.
Since the coat runs big, I should have sized down but I didn’t. I sized up. I was going to return it, but it was nothing my little handy dandy OBI belt couldn’t fix. Plus, I can always take it to the tailor for a perfect fit, but I’m digging it with the OBI belt.
So there you have it. More coats to come.
