Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Last week, I happened to be going through my Instagram feed and came across a very intriguing question that was asked by Jasmine Elder who is the plus size designer for Jibri. After sharing photos of her two non plus size friends wearing exclusive Jibri pieces, she asked:
“Should exclusive plus size lines expand to encompass all sizes?”
I thought it was an excellent question and asked her if I could share it with my readers just to get your thoughts on it. Jasmine also noted that she is often asked to design pieces for size 10/12 because women in that size range say they can’t find many items that fit them directly off the rack. She even added that sometimes size 2 or 4 women ask her to make her same plus size pieces in their size. I for one am not surprised and am quite sure that other plus size designers get the same requests. I’ve always felt that fashion is universal and shouldn’t discriminate. Unfortunately plus size women are discriminated against. Especially in the fashion world. The reason we have plus size designers and brands was to fill that gap between straight and plus size fashion. Plus size designers started to create their own lines to fill a void in the fashion industry and provide stylish pieces for women above a size 14.
While we do have quite a few all inclusive lines like Rachel Pally, Tadashi Shoji, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, and more who offer both plus and misses sizes, plus size designers are bringing quality designs and those size 2’s and 4’s want to fill their closets with it too.How many times have we seen something at Zara or from a women’s wear designer like Stella McCartney or Diane Von Furstenberg and wished it was made in our size? Well, non plus size women are starting to feel the same.
Do you think the tables should be turned and plus size designers should start offering full size ranges including sizes 2-12?
Let me know your thoughts. Leave a comment.

I think they should in hopes that more non plus size designers would see our efforts and start designing more plus sizes .
Shelly says
Absolutely not. I like that we have exclusive pieces.

I say no because non plus size designers would never do the same. I think plus designers should offer custom sizes upon request but not include them in their main lines.
Sheila says
Nope, I like that we have stuff skinny girls can’t get.

It makes me no never mind if they do or dont. At the end of the day it’s their vision. If that’s something they want to incorporate then I’m all for it. There is a difference in doing both straight & plus and just straight up forgetting the demographic that gave you your start.

Sure, just as soon as exclusive straight size designers do. The fact is, straight sizes have so many options.
