Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Looks like there will be a new reality show catered to the plus size community. TLC the network that produces odd yet interesting reality shows is adding a new show to their roster. Big Sexy is a reality show that focuses on the life of 5 plus size women who are trying to break in and make it in the the weight discriminating fashion industry. The show will follow the five New York women (Leslie, Tiffany, Audrey, Nikki and Heather) in their prospective job fields.
According to TLC the girls “hope to expand and revise this commonly-accepted idea of what is beautiful and sexy – giving viewers a candid look into their lives as confident plus-size women who are shooting for the stars with their careers.
“Each episode will feature the women as they attend major industry events, parties and opportunities, all while giving a candid peek into the balancing of their personal, dating and family relationships as plus-size women. They are big, they are beautiful, and they are not sitting at home waiting for life to happen. They know better than anyone that real women can be sexy with curves — no matter what society says.”
If you shop Redress then you will probably recognize Leslie who is one of the shop girls. I must say that this show sounds more dignified than VH1’s Big Girls Club. Hopefully the show will be able to open up society’s eyes to see that big girls have jobs, relationships, dress just as stylish as their skinny counterparts, and love who they are and what they look like.
My only personal beef with this show is the name. Big Sexy, really?!
Big Sexy premieres August 30th at 10 pm. It will be a 3 part series. For more info checkout www.tlc.com
What are your thoughts on the new plus size reality show?

Will definitely check that out. Meanwhile, I didn’t know VH1 is about to have a show called “Big Girls Club”. Is this meant to be an answer to “Bad Girls Club”? If so, like, wow. Seriously?

The thing about reality shows when they have plus size cast member they always exploit them and make them seem unappealing even if the show is suppose to be uplifting. They’re seen as aggressive, overbearing or seen as funny because of their size, and I feel they need to break away from that stereotype. I never see them mention the plus size men or women in healthy lifestyles situations, or something positive other than the fat chick or guy that sits at home eating and being sad about the world not accepting them. That’s not how most of us larger people even are. So I’ll check it out but I’m hoping it’s positive “in the right way”.

I’m interested to seeing what it’s about. I knew a few people that wanted to be plus size models and to see someone else on their journey will be encouraging to a lot of teens and women out there. I must agree with the above in sharing a hope that these women won’t be exploited or made a mockery of.

I am honored to call Audrey a friend. And let me tell you ladies, she is a wonderful woman! I don’t know how the show will portray all the girls, but I am sure they are all nothing short of fabulous!

I just watched the first episode & i loved it. However i dont believe that half the women on the show are happy with themselves (as they claim to be) They all seem like wonderful people & great role models for young plus sized girls. I think they could have left out the big girl club witht the weirdo men & the not so classy women, just my opinion. I dont think it reflected a very positive image a the plus size woman.
