Hey curvy girls all around the world,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend. I know I did. Saturday I had a shopping date with Danielle from the blog Rhapso_DY. We met up at Redress to bring in our old gear hoping to scoop up something new. It was a casual day so I wore a cute little striped top that I bought at H&M and a pair of capris that I scored at the Gap on sale. I also wore my fave wedges that I got from Banana Republic about 5 years ago when they used to make really cute shoes.
We spent about 2 hours in ReDress just talking and laughing it up. I kind of felt like it was meant for us to be there because we ran into the cutest young girl. Her mom was trying to find something for her to wear to prom. All I could think was, I remember those days. The mom was fustrated because they had been to a myriad number of stores and couldn’t find anything age appropriate for the young girl who was about 13 years old. ReDress was her last stop and she’s was hoping to find something young, fun, and that made her daughter feel good about her body.
I feel that our young plus size girls need those of us who are confident with our bodies to help them become confident with theirs and to be honest it’s not just plus size girls it’s young girls of all sizes. However, the young plus size girl is rarely thought about in the fashion industry. She either has two options, to dress like her mother or dress overly sexy for her age. They need our help!

Love the casual chic outfit post but your thoughts and comments on our little girls was very insightful. Its true, they have more options than we did back in the day but its still not enough. Keep up the good work, girly!

That is great idea…and would be a great thing to do for the youth.
I had body acceptance issues when I was younger too. Mainly because I grew my chest at 8 🙁 if I had something like that it would’ve helped a lot.
You look so cute, I love that top!

Can’t wait to get started. That was such a big moment, seriously. I’m going to hone in on my thoughts about this and we should def chat soon.
Also can’t wait for the next shopping trip!
PS–love the nautical look of the outfit. meant to tell you that day.

This outfit does everything for me especially the stripes. I haven’t really worn capris in a long long time but mention GAP or Banana Republic & I pay attention.
What a moving story. I see this with girls of all shapes and sizes. I know your blogs speaks specifically to curvy girls but your idea to help can uplift the self esteem of many struggling young girls.

Very cute, casual day outfit & I think you are so right about young girls images. Someone such as yourself, who is curvy, confident & ambitious would be a great role model for them. If you do come up with a non profit or something like the ideas you mentioned, I am sure many women would be happy to offer their support!

This almost brought me to tears. I wish I had the options these girls have now. We were very forgotten back in the day. I had to get creative in order to keep up with the trends. And not having much money to splurge on clothes, I had to make it work. I’m so glad now to see young plus size girls going to the prom and looking elegant and feeling good without having to break the bank. I unfortunately didn’t go because of funds and even more because of few options. If I had the confidence I do today, I would’ve gone solo. I think that’s an awesome idea you have.
