Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Our goal here at Stylish Curves is to help you look and feel your best. Yesterday we shared part I of how to dress for your plus size shape and today, as promised, we are back with part 2. I wanted you ladies to get some advice from our contributor Kawana who is a stylist by trade. She has put together outfit ideas with your shape in mind.
Here’s Kawana:
Hi there stylish curvy ladies,
One of the biggest issues we have as women is knowing how to dress our shape. We tend to wear items that are easy and we don’t put a lot of thought into our clothes. A great tip for all shapes is to avoid baggy clothes. Show off your curves! We come in all different shapes and sizes and need to dress as such.
As an apple shape you should wear empire waist tops and dresses. You should stick with top that are loose fitting and show off your neckline. When it comes to jeans try wearing jeans that have a natural waist. Try to avoid low rise jeans and fitted dresses they may bring unwanted attention to your midsection. You have awesome legs show them off in short skirts and shorts.
Dress: Old Navy $20
Coat: Old Navy $80
Jeans: Macy’s $108
Sequin Top: Dorothy Perkins $55
Wedges: Steve Madden $130
As a pear shape aline skirts and dresses look great on you. You should wear tops that have neckline details such as v neck, boat neck and scoop neck tops. Try to avoid wearing garments that are too fitted around your hips, they are unflattering for your shape. Avoid wearing wide leg jeans that will make your hips appear wider. Skinny jeans look great on you.
Dress: Bloomingdales $58
Top: Dorothy Perkins $44
Skirt: Riverisland $41
Jacket: Dorothy Perkins $69
Shoes: Zara $70
As a hourglass shape wear pieces that hug your curves. The perfect dress for you are wrap dresses. Fitted and crop jackets are great for you. When it comes to pants look for flared and boot cut. Try to avoid bulky top that make you appear wider.
Jacket: Dorothy Perkins $55
Top: Dorothy Perkins $39
Skirt: ASOS $60
Dress: Macy’s $89
Shoes: $105
As a rectangle shape you should wear drop waisted top and detail tops such as bows, zippers, etc. Asymmetrical and bubble hems are perfect for you. All type of jeans/pants look great on you. Avoid low ride jeans they make your torso appear longer. Also try to avoid waist details for example gathers, tucks or belts.

Pretty much all of the pieces in this post speak to me! I especially love that peplum skirt! YES!!
While I really like this series, because I enjoy seeing the clothes that are shown, I would like to share my observation/feedback.
Personally, I’m really not one to worry too much about dressing for my shape. I wear what I like. I can appreciate people who do, but I know there are those of us who arent really into that.
For instance, I’m a pear shape, and I LOVE wide leg jeans. I do not avoid them. As a matter of fact, I just posted pics in wide-legged trousers last week! lol They may make my hips appear wide, and my legs short. But depending on the person, who’s to say that’s a bad thing? I have short legs and wide hips.
Even though the post is pointing out different body types, to me it seems as though the message is to try and create the illusion of an hour glass in some shape or form no matter what body type you are. As if that’s THE type that all women should shoot for.
I know this is a long comment, and I hope that my comments aren’t viewed as disrespectful in any way because that’s far from what I want to portray. I LOVE Stylish Curves, and I’m sure we all want the same thing. For women to be comfortable in the skin they’re in and rock their looks/style to the fullest with confidence and pride. Lets do it Ladies!!

I really like this series and it has been very helpful for me. I’m a size 14 hourglass so looking too wide in the shoulder area is definitely a concern for me.
