How To Score Plus Size Designer Clothes On A Budget
One of the most asked questions by plus size women when it comes to designer clothes, is why do they cost so much? I even did a Facebook survey on what’s a good price range for plus size clothing and many of our followers said, they’re willing to pay anywhere between $50-$100. Unfortunately, most high end designer pieces can start at $500 and up. Contemporary designers can fall into the $200-$500 range, even in plus sizes. As a self-proclaimed shopaholic, I’ve learned some pretty good shopping tips on how to get designer pieces for a fraction of its retail price.
Today, I am going to share those tips with you, so, you can snag you some plus size designer style without dipping into your rent money. We’ve all done some irresponsible things to get coveted designer pieces. With these tips, you won’t have to. Here’s how to get plus size designer clothes on a budget.
Tip #1: Shop Flash Sale Sites

There’s a reason sites like My Habit and Gilt are still around. You can really find some plus size high end designer pieces for a true steal. For instance, My Habit offers some deep discounts on Lafayette 148, ABS By Allen Schwartz, Anna Scholz and more. These pieces can retail for $500 and up but at My Habit you can score them for more than 60% off.
Tip #2 Shop Sample Sales
This tip is actually my favorite. Just about every designer from straight size to plus size offers a sample sale. You can really grab some nice pieces for up to 70% off retail price. Plus size designers like Monif C. Jibri, and inclusive designer Rachel Pally often have sample sales, where you can get $200-$300 dresses for under $100.

Tip #3: Shop Discount Department Stores

Discount stores Century 21, Nordstrom Rack, and Last Call Neiman Marcus are fantastic stores to go to when you’re looking for designer styles. Last Call NM carries Marina RInaldi which is a high end designer. Many of her pieces can start at $1,000. You can get 50-60% off Marina RInaldi at Saks off 5th and Last Call Neiman Marcus. You can also find designer handbags and shoes from Dian Von Furstenberg, Tory Burch and more for a fraction of the cost.
Tip# 4: Rent Designer Style
Sites like Rent The Runway are perfect for those special occasions when you want to rock a high end designer but don’t want to shell out a month’s worth of pay. Rent the runway has designers like Tadashi Shoji, Theia, Monique Lhulier and more. You can find dresses up to a size 24 in many of their styles.
You can also try Gwynnie Bee which is a plus size fashion subscription service, where you can rent clothes on a monthly basis for as little as $40 a month.
Tip# 5: Shop Ebay
Ebay is an oldie but still a goodie. I will never forget the time I scored a pair of Gucci slingbacks for $60. Ebay makes it so much easier now to find designer pieces than ever before. All you have to do is type in the designer you want and the size you’re looking for and scroll through to see who is offering the best deal.
Tip# 6: Shop Local Consignment Shops
Another old school tip but it works. The good thing about consignment shops is that you can find a rare unique designer piece. Many high end designers do offer plus size up to atleast a sizer 16 and often times they’re cut big, especially if the piece falls into a vintage category. You can also find top notch gently used designer bags at consignment shops for atleast 50% off.
Tip# 7: Sign up for newsletters
Signing up for your favorite designer or high end department store newsletter will give you first hand details on sales. You can shop the sales before everyone else. Saks, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom always send out pre-sale and end of season sale emails to their newsletter subscribers, so they can get the first pick of designer deals. Most stores and designers even offer a first time discount if you sign up for their newsletter.
Tip #8: Follow your favorite designer on social media
Social media has become the new source of special discounts from your fave designers. Designers utilize their social media to give out one day deals or discounts on specific items. This past holiday season, plus size designer Jibri shared her black friday sale via Instagram first before sharing it anywhere else. Anna Scholz also uses her social media to relay special discounts.
Bonus Tip:
For designer shoes and accessories, on the daily my favorite place to shop is The Outnet. The Outnet carries uber high end designers like Valentino and Jimmy Choo at deep discounted prices.Last year, I scored a pair of $600 Jimmy Choo pumps for under $300 and the year before that I scored a pair of suede peeptoe $800 Giuseppe Zanotti heels for $200.
