Hey curvy girls all over the world,
When Rachel Roy first launched her curvy collection back in 2016, I felt her aesthetic was exactly what plus size women needed. Plus size women are often only presented with cheap fast fashion options. There are very few brands that actually offer quality, great design, and style for sizes 16-24+. Now that’s no shade to the retailers and designers who offer those styles but there needs to be a balance. Plus size women deserve to have clothing with substance. So, when Rachel debut her first collection, I was excited because it offered a balance of classic and trendy styles. This year, the designer and all around fashion mogul has just released her Rachel Rachel Roy Curvy fall 2017 collection.
The Rachel Roy team invited us to get a behind the scenes look at the fall collection campaign. We spent the day at a gorgeous mansion in Yonkers, NY.
When I arrived on location, model Jocelyn Corona was already in the hair and makeup chair getting ready to shoot some looks. We spoke with the hair stylist for the day. He created loose beachy waves by using salt spray to give that next day hair effect.
In addition to beachy waves, the stylist went for a 60’s vibe by pinning up Jocelyn’s hair and using printed scarves. Jocelyn’s makeup was also 60’s inspired. The makeup artist created sultry looks inspired by Bridget Bardot. She opted for red stained lips with light eyes, and glowing skin.
Later, I walked over to wardrobe to talk about the fall the looks. The fall collection was filled with textured luxe pieces like a multi-colored faux fur jacket, silver metallic gauchos, and soft knit sweaters.
In addition, there were quite a few sport inspired pieces like a mesh body con dress
and bomber jacket.
All the apparel was accessorized with Rachel Rachel Roy jewelry.
On set, model Jocelyn was working the camera effortlessly.
She shot over 13 looks and didn’t break a sweat. She was all smiles throughout the day.
As for inspiration for the fall collection, Rachel Roy says, “The Fall collection was inspired by ideas ranging from classical ballet to West African art. My curvy customers know and feel I am an advocate for her and her taste. Fall has shapes that allow her to channel her inner grace and style.”
In the fall collection you’ll find one shoulder belted tops, printed tie neck blouses, faux leather pants, body con knit skirts, dresses, and cold shoulder sequin tops. The collection is a medley of bold prints and luxe textures. The collection launches this August.
