Next month will be my 10 year anniversary of being an entrepreneur and full-time content creator. And I feel so blessed and highly favored. Over the past decade I’ve been able to live out my dreams and make money from them.
I must also mention that May of this year was my 15 year anniversary of being a creator overall. Yup! May 2009 is when I started Stylish Curves the blog. Back then, I couldn’t have imagined that I would still be here. Thank God that I am.
My Journey From Part-Time To Full-Time Creator
When I think back to everything that has happened to me over the past decade, a big smile comes across my face. Being part of the fashion content creator industry has been good. However, not without its ups and downs. But, I’ve been able to navigate through and still stand strong and do what I love. And that’s something to celebrate.
Throughout the past few years, I’ve done national campaigns with brands like Naturalizer.
I was featured on Good Morning America multiple times.
I’ve spoken on major media platforms like Samsung and Essence Beauty Carnival.
I was a guest on Amazon Live sharing how I created content for their platform.
I’ve also been dubbed a plus size fashion expert by fashion media outlets like Marie Claire.
This is just a few of the amazing things God has blessed me to do.
While I experienced those amazing opportunities, I think back on my first year of being a full-time content creator. And it was shaky. Quickly, I realized you’re responsible for your own income. And I needed a plan and strategy to be successful.
When you work for yourself, it’s your business. You have to treat it as such. EVERYDAY! Creating content is your business. I learned to show up for myself everyday. And because I did, I have been my own boss for the past 10 years.
I remember quitting my corporate job back in 2015 because it was a dead end. My boss told me there was no more room for growth and I needed to be happy with just being an office manager and doing that really well.
My heart and spirit just couldn’t do that. After careful thinking, I decided to leave (on good terms of course) and pursue being a creator full-time. At that time, I was already doing it part-time. I took a leap of faith and never looked back.
This month I am entering a new territory and that is trying to help new creators navigate the content creator industry and turn it into something they can make money from to help supplement their income or become full-time.
I’m celebrating how far I’ve come and where I’m headed.
And the way I wanted to begin celebrating this year was by creating something that would be helpful to anyone who wants to be a digital content creator.
