Hey curvy girls all over the world,
I can remember like it was yesterday the first time I bought a pair of overalls. It was in 1998 back when old Navy was a hot spot for a high school teenager. It was a pair of blue light wash overalls and they cost me $36 or $40. I was so hyped (old school slang) to get them that the night before I created an outfit with them. A cream long sleeve t-shirt, a gold chain, gold hoops, an oversized Guess watch, and a pair of white Nike Uptown’s. I ironed my clothes and then neatly laid them out on my bedroom chair and went to sleep.
I was so anxious to wear them, the next day I woke up 30 minutes earlier than normal. When I went to school, I walked with my head held high and shoulders back feeling like I just created the most perfect youthful outfit in the world. Let’s just say, on that day, I was feeling myself, then I spilled juice on the damn overalls during lunch and my outfit high was gone.
Now, fast forward to 2014 and what do you know, overalls have made a comeback and I am so here for it. I know many people think that overalls should be left to teenagers and toddlers but I beg to differ. While, I wouldn’t want to be 50 years old sporting overalls (just my opinion) I do think that the 20-30 something crowd can pull them off. As an early 30 something year old, I decided to challenge myself. I challenged myself to create a chic and modern way of wearing overalls as an adult and as a plus size woman.
I knew that the fast fashion stores like Forever 21 would have overalls for non plus size girls but I wondered if I could find me a pair in my size that would fit and most importantly flatter. Surprisingly, I found more than one pair in plus. However, the pair that I found and felt fit the best was an olive green skinny leg pair from Ashley Stewart. You can always count on Ashley Stewart to stay current with trends when it comes to plus size fashion.
I went into my local Ashley Stewart store tried them on and was filled with glee when they fit comfortably and true to size. When it came to putting a look together, I remembered this old acronym, K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple Stupid) and decided to take that route. To pull off my chic and modern adult look I kept it simple with a 3/4 sleeve classic white button up.
As for accessories, a pair of white nudist ankle strap sandals, a structured tote, and for a little splash of umph, I added a green jeweled encrusted chain link necklace.
I also kept my makeup simple with a rose blush, black eyeliner and a berry lip from Milani called Sangria.
So, what do you guys think?
