As we get ready to enter into another season, I think one look all plus size women should add to their wardrobe is a pair of plus size wide leg pants. Wide leg pants have the ability to make you look just as good as any skinny or straight leg pant would.
Every season designers create modern looks with wide leg pants. Believe it or not they can be one of the most flattering pairs of pants on any body shape.

Now, I know what you’re probably thinking. Can plus size women wear wide leg pants? The answer is ABSOLUTELY. With the right top and shoe pairing, wide leg pants can look fantastic on a plus size body. And they can streamline your shape.
I for one have dabbled with the 70’s style quite a few times (see HERE). Finding the right pair of wide leg pants for my shape has taken a little trial and error. However, here are easy universal tips to helping you find the right pair for your shape.
What To Look For In Wide Leg Pants For Plus Sizes
–Length is important when wearing wide leg pants. Therefore, the rule of thumb is that wide leg pants should hit past your ankle grazing the top toe of your shoe. Floor grazing styles are even better. (in my opinion).
–Find wide leg pants that fit the largest part of your body. If you’re hippy make sure the pants are not pulling and gaping around your hips or near the crotch.
–Try a wide leg jumpsuit with a belted waist for a universal flattering look.
–Plus size girls should look for thicker fabrics like jersey or a woven fabric.
–Wide leg pants should neatly drape over your curves, so if you have to size up, that’s okay. The goal is to get the best looking fit.
–Since wide leg pants have a full relaxed cut, try wearing it with a fitted top or a sleek jacket. It creates a streamlined look and a fitted top balances out the full wide leg.
–Go for a pair of wide leg pants that are high waisted. A high waisted pair of pants is flattering on a variety of body shapes.
Plus Size Wide Leg Trousers
There are a few different styles of wide leg pants. You can do wide leg trousers or wide leg jeans. If you’re going to do wide leg trousers, look for mid and highwaisted styles. Make sure they are not stiff but are a bit flowy and slightly relaxed.
What’s great about wide leg trouser pants is that you can take them from work to weekend. Rock a wide leg pantsuit for the office. And then wear the pants with a graphic tee or sweatshirt and sneakers on the weekend.

In addition, wide leg jeans are also a cool option for plus size women. Personally, they’re one of my favorite denim styles. Plus they give a retro vibe.

Thank you for this. I was really struggling with my decision to wear Wide Leg Pants for my Graduation.
I wouldn’t be comfortable with tucking in my shirt. I want my shirts to at least be 34” (I’m 5’2”). Must cover the belly. Can I wear a long shirt with the pants!
Like the wide leg pants that are featured, but I think they’re are more suitable for women with inverted Triangle body type to bring balance to their thin legs rather than plus size women-:)
