Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Unfortunately, body shaming is still prevalent in our society. We live in a world that determines your worth based on your size and the way you look. Plus size women and men are shamed for their looks on the daily. In addition, social media has magnified how much hate the world has for people who are not thin. If you’re not the conventional beauty standard, people will call you ugly. Fortunately, we do have people in this world who have started movements to encourage more diversity in the images that we see
At the end of 2017 one beauty vlogger decided that she wasn’t going to take the hateful comments she was receiving about her looks. Beauty guru Nabela Noor decided to shut down her body shaming haters with a heartfelt makeup tutorial.
On her Instagram page of over 500K followers, the beauty guru shared this with her followers, “In 2017 I was called a pig, fat, ugly, a monster. I was told I should kill myself because of how I look.” She goes on to write, “The girl I see in the mirror is beautiful with and without makeup, whether I am a size 6 or a size 16.”
As a blogger who writes about plus size fashion and shares photos of my plus size body, I can assure you that body shaming is real. People who don’t know you will tell you that you’re too fat and unhealthy. They act like they’re your personal physician.
As a dark skinned woman, I’ve been told that I’m too dark or black to wear bright colors. I’m ugly just because I am dark skinned. People are so quick to tear you down and slow to build you up. That’s why its so important to know your self worth and block out the negativity.
If doing this by yourself feels difficult, I understand! When people are so eager to throw negativity at you, it can be hard to shield it all and still feel worthy. Talk to your trusted friends or family, and if you cannot do that, then seek the services of a trustworthy therapist offering Counselling Kingston services. Sometimes, an outsider’s perspective can help you get rid of the shame and build confidence to a great extent.
I encourage all of you who are reading this to watch Nabela Noor’s video below. She uses her makeup skills to erase the negativity and created something beautiful.
