Hey curvy girls all over the world,
There are very few contemporary designers who fall into the size inclusive category. You would think it would be more but unfortunately its not. With the average American woman wearing a size 14, it makes sense for designers to include larger sizes above a 12. Michael Kors and Calvin Klein have done it for years. Even creating full fledged plus size collections within their lower priced lines. In spring of 2017 beloved designer Tracy Reese will begin offering expanded sizes up to a size 18 and 2XL in select pieces.
All I have to say is that dreams do come true. Tracy Reese is one of many designers that I felt should incorporate larger sizes. Being a curvy girl herself, I always felt that one day she would. In 2017 that day will come. When I heard the news, I had to do a little dance for joy.
In an interview with Refinery 29, the designer said,
“It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a while.” The decision came, in part, out of customer demand. “Anytime I have made appearances at stores, there are always customers asking for more extensive sizing.”
Reese’s designs are always feminine with bold prints and vibrant colors. She has dressed everyone, including the First Lady Michelle Obama. FLOTUS has worn numerous pieces designed by Tracy Reese.
The designer was very clear about the challenges she faced adding larger sizes.
She said, “Nailing the correct proportions as we grade up in sizing is extremely important. “Just because the customer is more voluptuous, doesn’t necessarily mean she is taller.”
Expanded sizes will not be available in every piece but in select spring 2017 styles.
Tracy Reese Spring 2016
I don’t know about ya’ll but I’m super excited and would definitely pay for one of her pieces. The fact that she is taking into consideration, proportion, lets me know that this is not just about grading up sizes but making sure the fit is right on a voluptuous figures.
Tracy Reese will include a diverse group of models in her spring 2017 show. We will see plus size model Clémentine Desseaux walk in her show. Which is major.
