One of my favorite tips to give people when it comes to looking cute when its cold, is to invest in a statement coat. A statement coat will make the most simplest look more interesting. Right now, I am a huge fan of the plaid trend. To me, plaid is not a trend. Its a classic print. However, its popularity goes in and out.

When I first wore it, I felt like I was somebody important. I know I am someone important but this coat made me feel Olivia Pope important. I could totally see her rocking this on her way to the White House to solve problems. Olivia wouldn’t style it the way I did. However, I am no longer in the corporate world, so I wanted to wear it in a way that suited my work from home lifestyle. I added a little sexy appeal to it with a chic mesh polka dot top from Cacique.

You guys know that I’m all about making your clothing work double duty. This mesh top is actually lingerie but I think it works as a top to wear in public. I also wanted to keep things casual with this coat so jeans were an obvious choice. To complete my little daytime chic ensemble, I added a pair of patent leather heels. This is a look I would wear to lunch, grabbing coffee, or going to the movies.

The plaid trend is truly going strong this year and we are seeing so many different versions of it. We are breaking away from the classic black and red plaid and seeing brighter colors. I’m here for it. When it comes to the plaid trend, I’m looking for a few more pieces. Especially cute tops and even a plaid skirt. Pieces that I can wear now and when its warmer.

That really is a beautiful coat. Lucky for me, living in Phoenix, there’s not a great need for coats during our normally mild winters. I’d love if this coat came in larger sizes though.
