Torrid Teams Up With Legendary Designer Betsey Johnson For A Holiday Plus Size Collection

In today’s plus size fashion news, Torrid has partnered with legendary designer Betsey Johnson for a holiday collection.

Who Is Betsey Johnson

Now some of you may not be old enough to know but Betsey Johnson use to be one of the highly anticipated shows during New York Fashion Week.

Her designs were feminine and edgy. Also her designs were coveted by celebrities and young fashionistas. However in 2007 Betsey and her business partner sold the majority stake in the company to a private equity firm. Then in 2010 Steve Madden bought the company.

Although Johnson no longer held the majority stake in her company, she remained the creative director. Within the past 5 years you’ve seen a slew of Betsey Johnson accessories. With the shoe designs being very popular.

In addition to accessories Betsey Johnson still designed clothing. She’s even added a plus size line which you can find at select online retailers like Amazon.

An iconic designer like Betsey Johnson exclusively creating a line with Torrid is legendary in itself. Torrid is one of the most well known plus size brands in the US.

So, how did this holiday collaboration come about. According to Torrid,

“Following a survey, the brand received an overwhelming response about a potential collaboration with Betsey Johnson, showing just how much the designer resonates with the TORRID customer.”

Torrid is also known for their nostalgic collections. They’ve produced collections ranging from Disney to Harry Potter. A collection with Betsey Johnson simply makes sense. This is a collection for fashion lovers.

The Betsey Johnson and Torrid collection launches today online and in select stores. Torrid says,

“The collection fuses the brand’s unmatched fit expertise with Johnson’s distinctive design aesthetic. The collection celebrates the signature punk rock fashion of the 80’s that Betsey popularized during her design career that spans over 40 years.”

Some of the standout pieces in the collection are a Puff Sleeve Corset Top, Tartan Strapless Dress, Tartan Button Front Blazer, Hook and Eye Peplum Jacket and Silver Metallic Tulle Dress. Pieces in this collection are priced from $15-$228.
