Hey curvy girls all over the world,
We live in a world that constantly tells women what they should look like, how they should dress, and how they should act. As women, we can get so caught up trying to live up to society’s idea of who we should be. I was always taught to be myself. Be true to who I am. Even if people don’t think who I am or what I look like fits in to their box. One of the most iconic female athletes in this world is Serena Williams. She’s iconic for her skills on the tennis court but for me as a black woman, she’s iconic for not allowing herself to be put in a box.
During the Oscars, Nike released a new ad featuring Serena Williams. Serena shares all the negative things people have said about her as a woman. In the ad there are shots of Serena playing tennis and you hear her say,
“I’ve never been the right kind of woman. Oversized and overconfident. Too mean if I don’t smile. Too black for my tennis whites. Too motivated for motherhood. But I am proving, time and time again, there’s no wrong way to be a woman.”
That’s right Serena, there is no wrong way to be a woman. No, you’re not too oversized and overconfident. You’re a goddess. No, you’re not to black, you have swag when you’re on that tennis court. Continue to show and prove that you’re just a phenomenal woman.
